A test list is not the whole assessment.
General federal law checked September 26, 2026 does not require blood tests before every prescription.
Some medicines have their own Food and Drug Administration (FDA) safety programmes that can require tests. State rules and the tests needed for proper care still matter.
Ask whether the medicine being discussed has any special testing requirements.
State bodies oversee doctors; their national group is called the Federation of State Medical Boards. It recommends how care ought to work, rather than making law for the whole country.
Its guidance makes the doctor responsible for needed tests: doing them, arranging them or referring you elsewhere for them.
So the useful question is not whether a package includes “labs”. It is why these tests belong in your assessment.
Make the health history part of the conversation.
The Wegovy label asks about pregnancy plans, planned surgery and other diabetes medicines.
Also mention past pancreas problems, including inflammation called pancreatitis; the pancreas is an organ inside the belly. Gallbladder problems matter too.
Tell the person assessing you about severe problems with food moving out of your stomach, and eye disease caused by diabetes. If you are unsure what a past illness was called, ask them to check your records.
These label notes were recorded September 26, 2026.
Bring your medicine list to the person who would prescribe the new medicine. Ask how your past illnesses and existing medicines affect the choice.
- What are you checking before we make a decision?
- Who will explain the results to me?
- Is the test charge part of the visit fee or separate?
Ask what gets checked later, too.
For people with diabetes, the Wegovy label calls for blood-sugar checks before and during treatment.
It also calls for kidney checks when vomiting or diarrhea could cause major fluid loss, and for regular checks of your pulse while you rest.
This is not a fixed testing package for every person. Ask which checks fit your own health and the medicine being discussed.
